What
is it...
Community,
environmental and municipal relations are important for HMA producers
and when they have and odor problem, they address it!
Roof Odor Solutions® has developed
its new liquid odor-reducing additive that, when mixed with asphalt
cement (AC), greatly reduces or eliminates the smell associated with
asphalt.
Roof Odor Solutions® is a patent-pending
product whose chemical properties act as an oxygen scavenger with the
asphalt to provide an end-to-end solution for asphalt odor: from holding
tank to paver. At less than 4 cents per ton of hot mix asphalt (HMA),
the additive is an economical answer to improving the environment for
workers and neighbors of hot mix facilities.
Finally, there's a cost-effective solution!
Asphalt Solutions, Inc. was recently awarded the 2004 NOVA Award from
the Construction Innovation Forum (CIF) for innovative ideas and new
technology in the construction industry. A.J. Ronyak, President and
CEO of Asphalt Solutions, Inc. of Lichfield Park, Arizona accepted the
NOVA Award on April 29th, in Dearborn, MI. The CIF is an international
nonprofit organization that was formed in 1987 to recognize innovations
in the construction industry that improve quality and efficiency, and
reduce the cost of construction.
Asphalt Solutions, Inc. eliminates odors from several different materials,
and one particular material is asphalt roofing. We feel that when our
AS-Roofing Additive is added to hot mix at the manufacturer in liquid
form, it becomes hassle-free for individual roofing contractors that
would be mixing the solutions themselves. When added to liquid asphalt,
it has no effect on changes from liquid-solid-liquid form. It would
be more economical for refineries to add the solution to the mix prior
to sale for the use of asphalt roofing.
Upon mixing with asphalt cement, it has the chemical properties to act
as oxygen neutralizer to eliminate the fumes and smell of asphalt in
all stages of production, mixing, and paving. When mixed with the hot
asphalt, the active ingredient in AS Roofing additive will exhaust all
oxygen available in the mix for its oxidation process. The hot asphalt
then, lacks enough oxygen to undergo its own oxidation process which
would normally result in fumes containing sulfur – the main cause
of bad asphalt odor. The product was tested at the National Center for
Asphalt Technology (NCAT). All tests confirmed that the AS Roofing Additive
reduces asphalt fume emissions and eliminates its odor.
